What’s the one thing we all need more of but never actually get? Sleep. We swear we’ll go to bed early, then somehow end up doom-scrolling at 2 AM. I am by no means a sleep doctor or any kind of professional, but these are five tips that I have started implementing in my life that help me to have a better nights sleep and a better start to my day the next morning.
Peppermint Tea
I recently started doing this about an hour before I go to bed and it has really helped me to relax before actually falling asleep. The min works to soothe your muscles and your mind in efforts to get you a full eight hours 🙂
Eye Mask
This works great for travel or not. I always have a sleeping mask in my carry-on but also next to my bed. It gives the effect of complete darkness which helps reduce distractions and truly relax.
Phone on DND
This one is SO important for me. If I don’t turn off my phone completely, I will not be able to fall asleep hearing the notifications go off all night. I am guilty of keeping my phone on “Do Not Disturb” more often than not; however, it’s especially essential for me before going to bed.
No white noise/falling asleep to TV
This might be more of a personal preference, but for me I get the best sleep when the room is truly quiet. Falling asleep to sounds tends to keep my brain on and I have a harder time falling asleep.
Essential Oils
Essential oils like lavender and chamomile are great for relaxation and sleep. Room mists infused with these oils not only make your bedding smell great, but also get you to sleep sooner.
These tips may not work for everyone and are not always possible every night…life happens. But, I do find that when I set aside more time to prioritize quality sleep, I have a better day, more energy, and fewer dark circles under my eyes.
And if you’re ever looking for a bedtime story, The Couture Chronicles has plenty of great material to keep you entertained before bed 😉
