My First Nationwide Beauty Campaign

Back in March, I received an exciting email from my agent. My eyes skipped right past the details and jumped to “Congrats! You’re confirmed for…”. This meant that I had booked my very first nationwide beauty campaign. I would be shooting for the launch of Eva NYC’s new Beyond Gravity Volume & Texture Spray.

Finding these details in my inbox was so refreshing after a slightly strenuous season of watching companies rollback on their inclusivity efforts. I was determined to make a positive and lasting impression on this set; not only because it’s my job but also to prove that curve models can be everything and more when held in comparison to their straight size counterparts.

Walking onto set that morning in Brooklyn, I immediately felt the bright and welcoming energy in the room. The crew had such a genuine warmth, and I loved getting to know each person’s role throughout the day. From the stylists perfecting every detail to the photographers and creative directors mapping out the bigger vision, there was this seamless rhythm of collaboration. Being a part of that process, not just as the model in front of the camera but as someone watching the whole picture come together, was such a reminder of how much artistry goes into creating our everyday advertisements.

Not only am I a model, but also a marketing student. Being able to see the different teams work together to all accomplish one main end goal was impressive and honestly some of the most valuable “in field” experience you can get. The social team overlapped the corporate direction which mingled with the creative team who guided beauty which inspired the wardrobe team which eventually produced a finished product.

The day lasted about 7 hours and every moment was intentional from start to finish. All I could think about on my way home was how much fun I had and how many amazing people I met and especially how I couldn’t wait to see my face show up in Ulta.

Getting texts from friends and family this summer from all over the country sending selfies with me was so fun. I have experienced seeing myself on a billboard, on different brands websites, and on runways but this was my first time seeing my face nationwide in a store that I had been shopping at since the beginning of time. A very full circle moment that’s for sure.

There is A LOT that goes on behind the scenes of the fashion industry and being a model. Many things most people don’t ever see. At times it can be a ruthless and exhausting experience but there are moments like this that make all the working and waiting truly worth it.
