As I sit on the plane, headed back to the city with no set return date in sight, I can’t help but reflect on the perfect little summer I’m about to leave behind. We all love the typical summer aura—seeing friends, pool days, and vacations—this summer to me was something special. It was slow, simple, and peaceful. I was able to truly value the time spent with friends and family without feeling like the days are rushing past.
One of my most fond memories was our trip up north to Mackinac, my favorite place ever. A little island frozen in time, no cars allowed, and only 8 miles around the entire parameter. Spending our days lazily under the sun, exploring nature, and swimming in the clear blue water. That trip was the perfect snapshot of my entire summer.
I was able to find joy in the little things. I baked what felt like 100 batches of banana mufins…and I loved it. I found myself walking all of the time (must of been a habit I picked up in the city) every morning or night, usually by myself. These moments became a treasured ritual. Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks became my soundtrack of the summer.
Headed back to the city, I’m happy, a little sunburned, and very ready for what the year has in store, but I will not be able to forget my 2024 summer and just how perfect it was.
